You can split them up into three smaller dates or if you are able to spend an entire day together like we did, then do them all at once! My husband and I don’t often get an entire day that we can spend together, so I wanted to make it special for both of us. A day where we could relax, reminisce, get out in the outdoors, and enjoy ourselves. Each part of this date was designed around three things that I love about our relationship. So here goes! Our Love Is…Organic
Every town has a Farmer’s Market, whether big or small. I have always loved wandering around a Farmer’s Market to see what interesting products they have available. No, Farmer’s Markets aren’t always just for produce. You will find a wide variety of food products, handmade crafts, art, wood working, and so on. We even found a vender selling fresh fish! I’m serious! Fish that were still swimming around in huge tanks from a farm pond.
The object of this part of our date was to find all of the items on a list. A huge thanks to Aileen over at Lil’ Buckaroo Designs for creating the adorable and FREE Farmer’s Market Printable! She is a truly talented digital designer…and thank goodness because that is not my strong suite! Thanks Aileen! Another fun thing we did was to pick out an item that we felt best represented our relationship. My choice: A beautiful wooden bench that one of the wood workers made (the one we’re sitting on above). It’s strong, sturdy, reliable, and absolutely beautiful. My husband’s pick? An artist’s painting depicting red hot canyons (see inset in the picture above). He said it’s because our relationship is deep and that we have red hot passion…or the color probably attracted him because he loves my red hair. But, hey, I’ll take it! haha! It gave us some good laughs anyway. Our Love Is…Breathtaking For the second part of our date we went for a hike behind Idaho State University. There is a spot that overlooks the entire city of Pocatello and there are pillars that stand on the top of the overlook. If you want me to get really corny about it, I would say that this is the exact spot that my husband asked me to be his girlfriend 8 years ago and that the pillars could be noted as “the pillars of our love.” Haha, okay, don’t gag on that phrase. I just thought it was funny so I ought to share. This was also the first time that we brought our kids to this spot. So it held meaning for us to have our little family together 8 years after that fateful night.
While we were sitting up here overlooking the valley we reminisced about our dating life together and the night he asked me to be his girlfriend. The poor guy! I really didn’t make it easy for him. He kept asking me, “So will you?” And I coyly responded (with an added amount of confusion), “Will I what?” LOL! I really did make the poor man spell it out…”Will you be my girlfriend?” I wouldn’t have had that moment any other way.
At any rate, make this part of the date your own. Either go to a place that has great meaning for both of you, or find a new place close by where you can create new special memories together. I love our spot because in the evening you can look out at all the lights of the city AND it’s only 5 minutes from our house. So find a place that isn’t far away that you can escape to with your spouse…where you can have some quiet alone time to whisper sweet nothings to each other. Our Love Is…HOT To end the day together we met up with some friends in the mountains close by for a bonfire. Now, I don’t know how bonfires are rated where you live…but I’m about to show you how we do it Idaho. We put our friend, Spencer, in charge of the fire building portion. I would say Spencer has become a pro at bonfires. (See Spencer below flexing his mighty bonfire skills.)
We brought along dinner in traditional bonfire fashion: hot dogs, chips, drinks, and all the s’mores makings to gut bursting happiness. Although, we seriously underestimated how good Spencer is at building a 20 Ft. blazing bonfire. His poor little wife, Cali, just wanted to roast her hot dog and got as close as those hot flames would allow…it just wasn’t close enough to actually cook the hot dog. But, we all got some serious laughs over her trying! Thanks for that, Cali!
It is always good for a marriage when you spend time with other couples that also have strong relationships. It keeps things fresh and fun, and this group definitely does not disappoint! We are all able to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere and just enjoy each others company. We shared a few “back in the day” stories and funny little anecdotes about ourselves. Thanks Cali, Spencer, Sarah, & Justin for such a fun night!
If you aren’t able to make it up to the mountains for a bonfire, you can always make it a night in! Grill up some hot dogs, grab your drinks and chips, and then make your S’mores using this really cool Microwave S’mores Maker that is my new favorite thing! You may not have a fire, but you can have your delicious bonfire dinner while you watch the sun set. Hey, the kids would even love to join you if you can’t find a babysitter!
